The Metamorphosis of Macbeth  Ã‚   Shakespeare’s play, Macbeth demonstrates what can happen when one pursues power at the expense of everything else.     The main character, Macbeth begins the play as a strong character that is greatly admired, however as the play progresses, Macbeth's personality and actions become more and more deceitful. Macbeth’s deceit eventually leads to his destruction. Following the murder of Duncan, Macbeth realizes that the murder has put him into the control of demon forces which are the enemy of mankind. Macbeth recognizes that the conscious acts which torture him essentially reduce him to a human individual. This is the inescapable bond that keeps him "pale" and at Act 3 Scene 2, he states: "Come seeling night Scarf up the tender eye of pitiful day, And with thy bloody and invisible hand Cancel and tear to pieces that great bond Which keeps me pale" The above quote by Macbeth demonstrates that he imagines that the execution of more murderous deeds, (instigation of the murder of Banquo), will help him pursue his interest of personal safety and also destroy any personal humanity left within himself. Immediately after the death of Duncan, Macbeth is disgusted with himself for murdering Duncan. This is shown by Macbeth when he states: "I have done the deed" He says this instead of simply saying that he has murdered Duncan and is consequently almost trying to avoid the subject. This demonstrates that Macbeth is deeply ashamed of what he has done. Macbeth also feels that the killing of Duncan has cut him off from God, because before the murder the text is full of references to things being divine, but following the murder everything in the text becomes bleak and unhol... ...e prophecies give Macbeth a false sense of security. Macbeth is very insecure, which is an explanation as to why he feels he has to kill anyone who he remotely views as a threat to his reign including his plan to murder Macduff: "I'll make assurance double sure" I think this is because he is so insecure that he feels he needs to kill Macduff to make the prophecy come true. The multiple roles of Macbeth in the play demonstrate his changing character and illustrate the complete evolution of Macbeth's personality. Macbeth begins as a respectable person and gradually his personality descends until he eventually falls apart and loses control. Huckelberry Finn – Chapter 1 Commentary

â€Å"There were things he stretched, but mainly he told the truth.† Straight away Twain shows us the irony and hypocrisy of American society through the eyes of the young and innocent Huck. For Twain's story to come out as he has intended the voice of the narrator is a crucial part. Twain has deliberately chosen a 13-year-old boy as the first person narrator to give the reader a greater sense of belief and trust which Huck quickly gains through his innocence. A young boy such as Huck would be less influenced by the world around him and, therefore, he will be telling the story straight from the heart and what he truly believes in. His vision isn't clouded by the ‘sivilised' society, which Twain perhaps purposely uses to symbolise the way in which American society attempts to place people into a certain stereotype. The language Twain has used is very simple which reflects Huck himself. The grammatically incorrect English. This seems to give Huck more appeal as it further demonstrates his innocence and honesty. Further more, Twain provides us with two contrasting characters in the widow Douglas and Miss Watson in both their personalities and language they use. Their main concern is to behave in the manner that is considered by the society to be ‘sivilised'. This gives the reader the impression that they are fake and not true to themselves but rather more worried about what others will think of them. From the beginning it is clear that Huck believes to be trapped by what he believes to be a confined society. When he is away from this Huck feels ‘free and satisfied' but now that the widow and Miss Watson have taken to ‘Civilizing Huck', his new clothes symbolise the way in which he is feeling on the inside. Huck feels ‘all cramped up' and ‘tiresome and lonesome'. He feels so lonesome that he ‘wishes [he] was dead'. All Huck wants is ‘to go somewhere' and he ‘warn't particular'. He is so desperate to get away from the society that is constricting him that Huck wishes he was at the ‘bad place'. Twain perhaps uses Miss Watson's criticism of Tom Sawyer going to the good place ‘not by a considerable light' as a way to emphasize Huck's fear of being lonely. Huck is very glad at this thought because he wants ‘Tom and [him] to be together'. Perhaps one of Twain's greatest concerns about America's society is its evident hypocrisy. This is greatly exemplified by the widow's ban on smoking because it was a ‘mean practice and wasn't clean' while she herself ‘took snuff too'. As she has authority others are willing to ignore her faults and ‘of course that was all right, because she done it herself', whereas Huck is compelled to follow the rules, only because he has not yet been ‘sivilised'. This passage also seems to explore the idea of criticizing others in order raise themselves. By condemning Huck for smoking, the widow is making herself feel better knowing that she has the authority and that it is all right for her to smoke. Twain uses the idea of Miss Watson using the spelling book perhaps to symbolise the way in which Huck sees this ‘sivilised' society- ‘I couldn't stood it much longer'. The society's concern with being respectable is emphasised by the irony that Huck is only allowed to join Tom's ‘band of robbers' if he goes back to the widow and becomes ‘respectable'. A possible implication of this is that no one would suspect a ‘respectable' person. The society would straight away try and accuse the ‘unsivilised' rather then point the blame on someone of a ‘respectable' status. Therefore, in order for Huck to join the ‘band of robbers' he must establish himself as a ‘respectable' member of the society so as the blame won't be pointed at him. Throughout the chapter the tone changes but particularly towards the end there is a darkness which is mainly created by the use of sounds. ‘I heard an owl, away off, who-whooing about somebody that was dead, and a whippowill and a dog crying about somebody that was going to die', all add to the lonely mood that Huck is feeling at the time and his wish that ‘[he] had some company'. Through Huck Twain is also able to express his views of racism in American society at the time. The use of the word ‘nigger' shows the acceptance of the term. Huck's observation that ‘things go better' when ‘mixed up' seems to refer to the racial segregation. Twain is perhaps portraying his view that society would be a better place if we all ‘mix up' and ‘swap around'. As the society in which Huck is being bought up in slowly attempts to ‘sivilise' him, Huck's character and values seem to grow stronger. As he fights against the society that is attempting to take away his individualism, Huck is determined to stay true to himself and tell the truth, with as little ‘stretches' as possible.

Isolationist Policy In The United States (1920’S And 1930’S) Essay

Isolationism pertains to the foreign policy that involves two major actions, non-intervention with regards to military actions and protection of economic activities. In the area of non-interventionism, the political leaders are observed to circumvent any coalitions with other countries as well as any participation in warfare and other forms of self-defense activities related to territories. In the area of protectionism, legal barriers are erected in order to regulate any exchanges related to trade and sharing of cultural information with individuals representing other states. The concept of isolationism is often mistaken as a non-interventionist way of thinking or philosophy and international policy associated with liberty, which entails unrestricted trading and traveling between individuals from any part of the world. It is thus best to employ the term libertarian isolationist as the policy of non-intervention or not participating with any activities or not getting associated with any political relations with a foreign country yet still retaining the capability of participating in free trade. The doctrine of non-participation of the United States through the refusal of entering into any form of alliance, agreement or commitment with a foreign country has been observed during different decades. Such isolationist policy is also coupled to the attempts of the United States to instill a sense of self-reliance based on a stable economy by dedicating efforts of the advancement of the country, in both routes of diplomacy and economics, while maintaining a condition of peace by keeping away from any associations with other countries and responsibilities. It is understood that developed countries generally engage in trade relations with other countries in order to expand its labor force as well as raise their standard of living based on the rise of the country’s economy. However, the United States is known to follow a protectionist policy which entails isolation from any form of engagement with trade relations with other countries. The leaders of the United States believe that such policy is beneficial to the United States, while economists express the opposite, that such policy is detrimental. Other critics have expressed that since the United States is recognized as the biggest consumer of the world and carries it own rich natural resources, it can identity specific conditions that should be applied to products and services that are brought into the country. This condition is the opposite of the free trade policy, which allows any country to perform any particular action that is recognized to be their expertise, and in turn benefit from the trading of their products. The adoption of the isolationist policy is the result of the conditions of a particular country, such as war, crises and uprisings that may originate from other countries. The isolationist policy adopted by the United States was mainly due to the effects of World War I, the Great Depression and the significant influx of immigrants. The decades of the 1920’s and the 1930’s were characterized by the isolationist conditions in the United States, wherein there was social seclusion from any form of engagement with countries around the world. The coined attitude, known as the Red Scare, was based on the Sacco and Vanzetti trial. In this setting, Americans gave more focus into instilling tranquility in their homes, more than providing efforts in achieving and instilling peace in other countries. It has been described that the United States adopted the isolationist policy because the country was already exhausted by global issues at that time. With this in mind, the political leaders of the United States were very anxious in staying away from issues and associated effects of war. This can be observed in the Kellogg-Briand Pact of 1928, which stated that war was outlawed as a tool for international policy. In a public address given by Warren G. Harding in the 1920’s, it was expressed that a supergovernment is the least of the United States’ dream and in turn, attention should be given to national issues instead. It was also stated that adopting the isolationist policy is not selfish, but is actually a form of sanctity. The result of the Treaty of Versailles is another example of the adoption of the isolationist policy by the United States in the 1920’s and 1930’s. In this case, the U. S. Senate did not agree to ratify the Treaty which states that the United States would engage in the League of Nations. The United States’ refusal to approve this Treaty showed the contempt of the U. S. over concepts of idealism at the international level, because the United States feels that engaging in this Treaty would eventually lead the country to war. The United States then was actively expressing the war is a contagious disease which can spread around the world at a very fast pace. With this stand, the Neutrality Acts of 1935, 1936 and 1937 were created, which prevents the re-emergence of ties between the United States and any war actions or policies (Doenecke, 1982). The many faces of isolationism are clearly shown during the 1920’s and the 1930’s. During these decades, the political and social views and American policy were turned towards isolationism, such as the increasing fear of communism, exhaustion from the idea of war, and the anti-radical hysteria. In the next decades such as the 1950’s, these same socialist isolationist views were also evident, but this time the political policy was turned towards and internationalist point of view. It occurs when a hot caustic alkali solution, such as caustic soda (sodium hydroxide), acts on natural fats or oils to produce a smooth, semisolid, fatty acid salt (soap) and glycerin, or glycerol. There are many different procedures and techniques of making soap. Three main ones include the boiling process, the continuous process and the cold procedure, The boiling process is one specific procedure in which soap can easily be made at home by boiling water with animal fat or vegetable oils and wood ash. As the water boils, the fat molecules are broken down into fatty acids. Saponification occurs when these fatty acids react with potassium carbonate from the ash to form soap. Continuous soap making process is another common process in which the fat is split into fatty acids and glycerin in a tall column called a hydrolyser. Molten fat is continuously pumped in at the bottom of the hydrolyser and is split into fatty acids by water that is continuously pumped in at the top at high temperature and pressure. The fatty acids are taken from the top of the hydrolyser and the glycerin is drawn off at the bottom. The fatty acids are then purified in a still and neutralized with an alkali to yield neat soap. Cold process is anther process, which is used by small factories. In the cold method, a fat and oil mixture is agitated with an alkali solution in an open pan until the mixture thickens. It is then poured into frames and left to saponify and solidify. This is a diagram illustrating how milled bar soap is commercially produced in industries to form the final product that is sold. Milled bar soap is produced by means of several mixing, blending, and milling stages. Hot water and fats are mixed in a hydrolyser and the fatty acids are distilled. James writes in the Bible, For as the body apart from the split is dead, so also faith apart from works Is dead. (1 ) Here what James Is stating is, if one has faith but doesnt do things to prove it, or show it, then its pointless. That faith is dead. Real faith is performed by believing in what is unseen, but more than Just believing has to be done here. Even Satan believes, but he has no works. He lives in hell, and tortures those who dont choose to live with Jesus In eternity. Faith Healing started back before the earliest records, it took place even in the Medieval Times. In those times, royalty was brought to the king and he was believed to have to power to heal through a touching motion. In todays time, there have been numerous reports of miracle cures. : Faith Is described as a powerful gift from God, out of the many gifts given from Him. In the book of Matthew, he writes He replied, Because you have so little faith, Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, Move from here to there,and it will move. Nothing will be Impossible. (2) This verse shows Just how mighty the word faith really Is. A mustard seed Is about one or two millimeters In diameter, compare that to a pin dot made on the tip of a human finger. It is so powerful that if one had only have that much faith, that mountains could be move. How phenomenal is that? Body: Faith healing is Patients of faith are normally happy, they dont complain about hardly anything, they have a smile on their faces, they are Joyful, and usually have numerous visitors during the day. They stay happy no matter what the circumstances are, because one way or another, they know for sure that everything will In turn be okay. These patients bless the nurses and doctors taking care of them because it is so easy to tell how thankful they are for the work being done. In the book, Heaven is For Real, authors Lynn Vincent and Todd Burro write a small segment about this man who Is on his death bed, and knows he wont last much longer. Instead of letting himself be so down, and crying; every time a nurse or visitor would approach his room, they could see his bright smile as soon as they pushed through the door of his hospital room. He was not so down, and negative because he knew where he was going. He had faith that he would see all of his family again someday, and that he was going home to be with his Lord and savior. He was not worried about a thing. (3) Patients who lack faith, they are not pleasant to be around simply because they are always downing themselves, and everyone around them. They are very negative patients to work with. They never smile, they are always complaining, and it takes something very special to bring happiness and Joy to their face. Rarely do they have visitor, and they are Just ready to die, because they have no faith that they just might make it, and be cured of their disease. In the Bible, Psalms talks about the healing of I OFF hem from their distress. He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. (4) Moses writes of a grand example of Faith Healing. The people of the Lord prayed to Him while they were sick or in trouble. He healed them immediately. Faith is a way of healing, a treatment of medicine with the efficient power of prayer and hope. Praying for healing power, from the healing hand of God is very important in the process of Faith Healing. Prayer holds importance in all religions other than Christianity. The power of prayer is unstoppable, it has the rower to seek and find what is in Gods plan for an individuals life. Having the faith to ask God to be healed, and believing in Him that He will answer, and respond to His request is an example of having faith. That is an experience pastors go through each day in the halls of hospitals. One of the roles of being a pastor is visiting church members in the hospital. Some pastors go from door to door on top of only visiting church members. They make several trips to hospitals each week, putting many miles on their vehicles, because of the care they have for their church members. There are also pastors that go to every patients room in the hospital to share the gospel and pray with them. In the Islamic religion, praying is a central element that is practiced and worshiped. The folks of this religion have five times a day that they pray. In the book of Quern, it expresses how important prayer is to Islamic people. And I have chosen you, so listen to that which is inspired to you. Verily, I am God! There is none worthy of worship but l, so worship Me and offer prayer perfectly for My remembrance. God says here that they are to pray to him, this is a very strict religion. (6) In the Buddhist religion, they have prayer wheels. Prayer wheels are hollow cylinders or metal attached to a rod or small pole. They are very beautifully designed on the outside, and come in many sizes. The prayer wheel also represent the Wheel of the Law, which was brought to motion by Buddha. The wheel spins, and by spinning it means Just as much to them as reciting or reading their sacred scripts aloud. Some of the wheels have sacred texts close by on paper or sometimes on animals skin. (7) Buddhist are very religious, they have many rituals and practices they maintain on a Journey to enlightenment. One of the popular practices is meditation. The practice of meditation is central to nearly all forms of Buddhism, and it derives directly from the Buddha experiences and teachings. Meditation is the central focus of Zen Buddhism and the only way to liberation in Tetrahedral Buddhism. The Zen of Faith is when one is stubborn and wont admit to believing in anything supernatural. An example of the Zen of Faith, Master Banker states, My oracle is that when Im hungry, I eat, and when I am tired, I sleep. Zen students are to have great faith, great doubt, and also great determination. (8) Giving examples of each of these religions displays how, even though their beliefs may vary and may worship different things; they still pray and they have faith. There is no scientific proof that Faith Healing can actually take place or any evidence that if can heal cancer or any disease. If its believed in, and prayed upon, anything can happen. Faith Healing does help with stress levels, pain relief, anxiety, and also plays a costive role in enhancing a persons will to live. Proven facts state that Hospitalized people who never attended church have an average stay of three times longer than people who attended regularly. Heart patients were 14 times more likely to die rarely attended church had a stroke rate double that of people who attended regularly. In Israel, religious people had a 40% lower death rate from cardiovascular disease and cancer. All of these facts thoroughly contribute to Faith Healing, and helping to trust that it is efficient.

To apport (literally, â€Å"carry to†) is to move or produce something through supernatural means, and an apport is something so moved. To comport (â€Å"carry with†) is to agree or to behave. (As with most but not all words featuring a prefix attached to port, the noun is formed by appending -ation.) Deport (â€Å"carry away†) usually refers to expelling a person to his or her home country. Disport has the same literal meaning but generally refers to amusement or diversion. Sport is a truncation of disport that usually refers to athletic activities (originally engaged in for amusement as a respite from one’s routine). Export (â€Å"carry out†) and import (â€Å"carry in†) refer, as verbs, nouns, and adjectives, to goods brought into or send out from a country for sale elsewhere; in the context of computers, the terms denote movement of a file from one program to another. Passport, the word for a document that authorizes travel to one country from another, derived from the notion of being able to pass, or gain entry to, a port when traveling by ship. By extension, it also pertains to permission to go somewhere or something that enables someone to achieve acceptance or entrance. To report for duty is to show up at a designated place and time to carry out a responsibility, usually in the context of military service. To support (â€Å"carry under†) is to help with emotional, financial, physical, or verbal assistance, to advocate or corroborate, or to hold up a structure. Support is also a noun describing such assistance (supportance and supportation are two obsolete variations), and a supporter is a person or thing that provides it. Transport (â€Å"carry across†) means â€Å"convey from one place to another,† though it also has the aesthetic connotation of feeling rapturous emotion, and historically it refers to sending someone to an overseas penal colony as punishment. Someone who transports is a transporter. (The term has also been used in the Star Trek franchise to refer to a device that dematerializes and rematerializes matter to move it from one place to another.) Transport is also a noun pertaining to a vehicle or vessel that carries people and/or things, a rush of pleasurable emotion, or a convict sent to a penal colony. The act of moving people or things, or a mode of doing so, is transport or transportation, and the quality of being able to be moved is transportability; something that can be moved is transportable. Primary research is done on the basis of raw data which are directly extracted from people by conducting interviews, filling up questioners, observations etc. here primary research is not done because it is very much time consuming.
